Introduction to claiming sites and earning badges in Nibbler beta

The big change in Nibbler beta is that it will combine your favourite website tests with a way to claim websites as your own. This will allow you to build up a portfolio of sites you’ve worked on and show this off to friends, colleagues or clients.

Here are some mockups of the new Nibbler beta as it’s in development. Remember these are basic mockups to indicate layout and functionality, and are not the final design!

The profile page

In Nibbler beta you’ll be able to login and manage all the sites you own, as well as displaying these proudly on your profile page.

The mockup below shows what you’ll see when you login.

Nibbler profile pageYour key details are listed top left. This shows your current score, based on how many badges you have. It also shows how many websites you’ve claimed as your own. You can upload a profile image here too.

ProfileThe badges you’ve collected from testing sites will be displayed proudly top right. Hovering over each one will show you the quick explanation of each, plus the points that this badge is worth. You can click through to a separate page to see all your badges..

Nibbler profile badgesThumbnail images of each of your sites will be shown down the right, with their Nibbler score so that you can see which sites are your best. You can click through to a separate page to see all of your claimed sites.

Your claimed sites on your profileMy Sites

This screen will show all the sites you’ve claimed, and how you were involved in creating each website. When claiming a site you’ll choose if you were the designer, developer, owner etc. You can manage the sites you’ve claimed here and remove them if you no longer want to display them.

Showing all your claimed sitesThis view will make it easy for you to see scores for all your websites at a glance – something that you can’t currently do in Nibbler.

Of course the main focus of Nibbler beta will still be on website testing, and we’re going to keep the existing functionality that makes Nibbler useful. But we want to present information in a more user friendly way, and enable users to build up a record of the good work they’ve done and reward them for it. We’ll be posting example mockups of the website report in another article.

Spoiler alert: Nibbler beta kicks ass so far. :)
Best of all is the badges, some are hilarious and seams totally random, like “Dingos? Strewth!” or “Badger” looking forward to more off em’.

Btw. I count the badges to 26-30 at the moment. Is it possible to know how many different there is?

Well done for getting those badges! We’re happy that you like it, we wanted to make Nibbler a fun experience as well as being useful!

My Nibbler beta screen looks totally different than the mockups above. In addition, I cannot find how to claim sites as my own-neither instructions on this page, nor in my beta profile.

Hi Andreas these are mockups of how the layout is going to work when it’s finished, unfortunately the current Nibbler Beta looks a bit different at the moment because we’ve been working on the backend functionality (the hard bit!) before we work on the layout.
There’s still a lot of discussion going on about the design, we’re doing a lot of work on it to make sure it’s perfect.

please remove facebook. it may be a way for people to find pages, but there are a damn lot of pages that are found differently.
Facebook just doesn’t “deserve” to be in Nibbler, please remove it…

How come my badges disappeared all of sudden, leaving me with a total of 0 points?

I agree to a point. Facebook is important, but it looks like Nibbler places too much weight on it.

My biggest complaint is the “requirement” we link back to Facebook. That’s a no-no according to experts. We work hard to get people to visitors to visit our site. Why kill our own site’s chances by sending our visitors over to facebook? It makes no sense whatsover.

Facebook is over rated here. I agree with Andreas, too. Besides, the Facebook “Like it” button tremendously slows down the site, with multiple weighty scripts and redirects.
